Miracle showing us the Free Food Stand at Leo's Community Development Center

**CONTEXT:** We at Leo's Community Development Center were inspired to try the Free Food Stand Method when some of us saw it in action in person at the Lansing Michigan Community Center, The Fledge. Miracle joined their 99 Problems But A Pitch Ain't One pitch challenge and won $100 to pay for materials to build it. Instruction on how to build one can be found here: https://www.instructables.com/Neighborhood-Free-Food-Stand-Made-From-Pallets/

**PROBLEM:** Low income neighborhoods like Superior, AZ are in need of a robust commons. The Superior Food Bank is only open some of the time and there aren't any other free food options around. Some in need are also embarrassed about it and don't want to ask for help. Juan's Central Bakery next door to us has baked goods that are still good but below their standards to sell and waste a lot of food because of it. They aren't the only people in our neighborhood who waste good food because they don't have an easy way to get it into the hands of those in need.

**Forces:** Lack of financial security, homelessness, low wages, high prices

**THEREFORE (SOLUTION):** Build a free food stand using the linked instructions. Fill it up with donated food and spread the word that people can give and take as needed.

**Actions:** - Experiment with the right location to place the stand.

**Consequences:** - People who are hungry eat - Less food is wasted - Helping in this way creates a bridge to conversations with community members who aren't seen very often, yet they have some of the greatest needs.
